Environmentally Friendly Drain Unclogging
Plumbing Repairs

Nobody likes a clogged drain. But before you go out spending money a container of chemical drain cleaner, which will only lead to adding more toxins and pollutants to the water system, there are a few options you have that are more sensitive to the environment and sensible for your wallet.

Quite often, your drain problems can be solved by opening up the drain tap in the drain pipe located underneath your sink. Find yourself a wrench and a bucket (placed underneath the trap), open up the trap and see if you can first unclog your drain by running some hot water through the pipe, and removing the blockage by hand. Many times, you'll only be dealing with hair, food particles, or other gunk that simply blocked the pipe.

Water Filters Versus Water Supply Services
Plumbing Fixtures

I love the taste of clean, fresh water, but I've never understood why so many people will go to so much trouble and effort hauling those giant ten gallon bottles to and from their homes, or get them delivered to their door only to have to lift those heavy suckers onto your water dispenser. Sure, it's great to have hot and cold filtered water at your fingers, but man what a lot of work!

Personally, I find it much easier just to attach a water filter to my kitchen faucet, and fill a plastic water jug and place it in the refrigerator. The jug, while more rectangular shaped, has a spout, and I get the same fresh filtered water (cold) without the cost or effort of those expensive water services. Plus I don't have to spend any time bringing the bottles back and forth from the water supply station, risking a back injury, or spillage.

The cost of these home water filters is next to nothing, and you only need to change the filter every few months. Installing the water filter on the faucet takes only a few minutes, and doesn't take any skill or expertise other than knowing how to unscrew the tap's original spout filter, and attaching the new filter.

Consider A Tankless Water Heater For Your Home
Plumbing Fixtures

If you're looking to make your home a bit more energy-efficient, a good area to examine is your current water heating system. One innovation in home water heating is in tankless water heaters, a method of heating the water as you need it, instead of the traditional water heaters that heat (and re-heat) the entire contents of the tank.

Tankless water heaters also offer a few interesting advantages, as you will never run out of water water like you would with a tank water heater, as again, the water is heated up as it is used. This can be particularly useful (and comforting) if you have a larger family, and there is still water available for the last person wanting to take a shower.

What Is Plumbing?
Plumbing Services

Plumbing is the skilled trade of working with pipes, tubing, and plumbing fixtures for potable water systems and the drainage of waste. Plumbing originated during the ancient civilizations such as the Roman, Persian, Indian, and Chinese civilizations as they developed public baths and needed to provide potable water, and drainage of wastes.

A plumber is someone who installs or repairs piping systems, plumbing fixtures and equipment such as water heaters. The plumbing industry is a basic and substantial part of every developed economy due to the need for clean water, and proper collection and transport of wastes.

Plumbing also refers to a system of pipes and fixtures installed in a building for the distribution of potable water and the removal of waterborne wastes. Plumbing is usually distinguished from water and sewage systems, in that a plumbing system serves one building, while water and sewage systems serve a group of buildings or a city.
